Pass It Forward

An anonymous person made my day today. As I was standing in line at Linens-n-Things to pay for my pepper grinder the man in line behind me said "Excuse me"

I turned and answered "Yes?"

He asked "Has anyone told you you are stunningly beautiful today?"

Just to be sure I heard correctly, I said "I'm sorry, I didn't hear you."

He then said "Has anyone told you you are stunningly beautiful today?"

I was trying to come up with something witty for my response, all that came out was "No, thank you very much, that makes this old, fat girl feel good" and gave him my best smile.

He then mumbled something in disbelief and smiled at me.

When I finished paying, he said "You have a nice day" and winked.

So... there are good people out there. Never underestimate the power of a compliment. Pass them out freely. It will make someone's day!!

Write back and tell me how you make someone's day.

Survivor - Micronesia Fans vs. Favorites

I am now a fan of the Survivor show on the CBS network. Why, you wonder. My next-door neighbor, Tracy, has been one of the "fans" this season. She is an amazing woman and a truly great friend and neighbor.
I was aware she was going through the audition/application process; even emailed some pics of Tracy to casting. (She told CBS she was using our computer.) Long story, but broadband connection was down at Tracy's home and ours was running. It was the neighborly thing to do.

When she disappeared for 6 weeks last fall, I suspected she made the final cut and was somewhere far away filming the show. I was so excited for her, but also incredulous. I could only imagine what it would be like to live with no running water, soap, food, electricity, deoderant etc. What a risk taker she is!

Each episode has been more real for me because I know Tracy. I just wonder what the challenges were really like. So much is edited out by the the producers. As viewers at home, we get to see the coniving and manipulation that goes on between the players because the cameras are everywhere on the island filming simultaneously.

I visited with Tracy today and snapped this pic of her and asked tons of questions regarding the show. What was Exile Island like, does Ozzy really have the immunity idol, does he make it to the end? Who is the best on the show? How many days between challenges? Is Chet really the sissy he's seems to be? BTW, when Chet's foot became infected, his liver became swollen. Now I understand why Chet wanted to drop out early and go home.

Tracy didn't tell me much due to her contractual obligations of "no comment". Sorry, there's no juicy insider news to pass on. She did admit to craving a Snickers candy bar and said she would do Survivor again in a heartbeat.

If I ever need to know how to start a fire without matches or dig a potty hole in my back yard I know who I can call on.

4 Things About Utard

Last week I flew into Salt Lake City and was reminded why I love Utard.

1. The Child's Play Area in Concourse B at the SLC airport. It's the only airport I know of that has a play area for kids.

2. The Y Mountain. Go Cougars!
3. Zions Bank. Why isn't it Zion's Bank?

5. The Posh Spice angled bob haircut. 50% of adult females in Utah Valley have this haircut. Seriously.

4. The desecration of the English language and it's attendant grammar. Consider the following:
The moun-unns are beautiful.
"These ones" as opposed to "these".
Please order some saltsa. Don't you mean salsa?
Flip
Fetch
Damage
Patriarticle

I could go on and on. Those Utards give me so much to laugh about every time I visit.

Blue Emergency Telephones

I remember when blue emergency telephones were installed on campus at Brigham Young University. They are located all over campus to provide a quick call to the campus police should the guy, who is walking you home, turn out to be an octopus who just had a dream that "you are the one I'm supposed to marry".

Last week I spotted this blue telephone with an "Out of Order" sticker pasted across the front. Just too funny! Luckily for the BYU coeds, this particular blue phone is located in a populated and well lit area of campus.
