Let Me Brag for a Minute

Things have been busy around here. Emma stays after school each day until 5:00 which means I drive over to the middle school and pick her up. It's not a bad drive, about 10 miles from home driving over the river and through the woods. I use the 2-lane windy, rural roads. Sometimes I end up driving err... crawling down the road behind someone who drives 30 mph in the 45 mph zones. It gives me more time to listen to talk radio, my favorite pastime when I am driving.

So who's doing the hard work? Hands down, it's Emma. For three months she was the manager of the boy's basketball team. That was a good gig. She hung out with the cute basketball team, kept stats, maintained the equipment and fetched things for the coach and team. Her "eager to please" attitude was most assuredly due to her saintly mother's example. Her managerial stint ended 2 weeks ago.

She instantly determined she wanted to try out for the school volleyball team. Sixty girl's spent two weeks running drills and playing for the coaches. Finally, results of the 12 member team were posted. Emma's name was on that list.

Things are going her way!! And the cherry on top was her report card. Straight A's. Don't worry about the B in French honey, it really could be an A, depending on the grading scale, really that 92 is so so close.

Today the Commenwealth Governor's School applications are due. The application process involves an interview, 4 written tests, submittal of past school work "that you are proud of" , three letters of recommendation and proof of your extracurricular activities. Each requirement in the process is awarded points by the judges. The top 30 scores will be given the opportunity to enroll in the program. If you live through the application process and gain acceptance into the program upon gratuation there will be a very pretty seal on your diploma.

Emma's nervous about her first volleyball game and the Governor's School application. But nerves won't stop her. So keep on keepin' on Emmy, I stand in awe of your determination to do well at everything.
